Both scientists are experienced pharmacologists (one with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and the other with an M.S. in Pharmacology) spending years in both academia and in industry.
One with an advanced degree in epidemiology (the basic science of public health) and the other a master's degree in library science.
Both spent six years in information science working with who we consider the Father of Medical Informatics, Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg, still the Director of the National Library of Medicine. A number of successful projects were developed such as a National Drug Information System to keep clinicians informed about drug incompatibilities.
One of us because of his continued interest in preventive medicine returned to school at the State University of New York at Buffalo to get a master’s degree in epidemiology. For his thesis work on menthol and tobacco smoking he worked with some of the best tobacco control people in the world, i.e., Drs. Michael Cummings, Gary Giovino and Andrew Hyland. At least three peer reviewed papers were produced from this work. The web site developed as a result of this work is still the most comprehensive website for information on Menthol and Tobacco Smoking.
To round out his preventive medicine training the epidemiologist went on to become a certified personal trainer and an emergency medical technician.
We are making a difference in convincing people that all tobacco products can cause extreme dependence and death regardless of the disguise.
